PANJIM: This year's Carnival in Goa will have a British and South African flavour. Goa Tourism has come up with a project 'Destination Tourism' that will send participants whose floats have been selected to the United Kingdom and South Africa for an exchange of ideas and talents.

Last year, Goa Tourism Development Corporation had tied up with the European Commission to provide financial assistance of up to Rs one lakh each to 20 floats, for the carnival parades.

The sponsored project titled 'Destination Carnival' is shortly expected to begin the selection of Goan floats with the closing date for submitting applications being Thursday. The shortlisted applicants, who comply with float sketch, specifications, concept and design, will be called for a presentation before the selection committee for grants.

The selected participants will get an opportunity to travel to the two countries as a part of the exchange programme.

According to a Tourism official, the Carnival float parade in Panjim will be held on February 6 followed by Margao, Vasco and Mapusa on February 7, 8 and 9 respectively. The dates for Shiroda, Ponda and Curchorem will be finalised on January 19.
