Explore South Africa on Google Street View

Your next armchair adventure awaits: Google Maps this week launched a virtual trip to South Africa.

Dubbed the "Mzansi experience," Google Street View brings iconic destinations and beautiful landscapes directly to you—no airfare required. Visit Kruger National Park, one of the continent's largest game reserves, for a glimpse at the roaming lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, and maybe even the elusive leopard in the 7,500-square-mile forest.

From the grassy plains to the foggy peaks of South Africa, virtual travelers can climb Table Mountain—a flat-topped landmark overlooking Cape Town—and scale the hills of Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in the Western Cape (pictured).

If sun and sand is more your style, the Mzansi experience lets you watch the waves (and maybe some other things) break at nudist beach Sandy Bay, gaze at the clear blue water of Clifton Beach, go parasailing at Sunset Beach, or take a long walk along Durban's Golden Mile, complete with a promenade.

Don't forget to explore the rest of the Street View's Rainbow Nation sites, including the famous Cape of Good Hope, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, Dobsonville and Ellis Park stadiums, and the University of KwaZulu Natal Durban campus.

"This South African Street View tour is just a taste of these vast plains," Tresp said. "We hope that visiting South Africa with Google Maps will inspire a deeper appreciation for the country [and] its wildlife and show the beauty of the African continent."

Google's Street View is available on iOS and Android, as well as the Web.
