Cape Town ranks as one of the best winter sun destinations for Northern Hemisphere travelers, according to a UK travel website.

Condé Nast Traveller UK has released its list of the world's best summery attractions during the months when the UK and other Northern Hemisphere regions get very little sun, if any.

The list includes the likes of Bora Bora, Cyprus, Thailand and Mauritius, all of which stand side-by-side with South Africa's very own Mother City.

The website lists Cape Town's scenery, beaches and wines as some of its draws, making it a prime destination for sun-starved Northerners.

While locals and travelers alike know all about Clifton, Muizenberg and Boulders, it's the less-frequented areas of Western Cape that Condé Nast is interested in.

"The less-explored Overberg Coast has wide beaches, good restaurants and wineries, moody seas at the southernmost tip of Africa, and a sensational coastal reserve that even the locals don't know about," it says.

The Overberg is home to several magnificent nature reserves, including De Hoop and Walker Bay, both run by CapeNature.
