Marriott Opens First Africa Sheraton Grand in Guinea

Marriott International has announced the debut of the Sheraton Grand Conakry, Guinea marking the Sheraton Grand brand's entry into West Africa and the continent as a whole.

Sheraton Grand Conakry will be run by Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott International. Marriott acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which owns the Sheraton brand, in September this year, creating the largest and best hotel company group in the world with a comprehensive portfolio and significant global footprint.

"Sheraton has a strong heritage in Africa that dates back to 1971," Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International said. "Over the last four decades, the brand has maintained its first mover advantage through strategic pipeline development and growth plans, giving global travellers access to more destinations in every corner of the globe."

Sheraton Grand Conakry is located in Conakry's trendy Kipe district, within easy reach from the international airport.

The 269-room hotel boasts ocean views, modern, elegant design, signature brand programming and an elevated guest experience for business and leisure travellers in West Africa.

Its leisure facilities include a 300 square-meter fitness centre open round the clock, an infinity pool and spa.

Sheraton Grand Conakry has 15 meeting rooms with over 1300 square meters of meeting space, state-of-the-art facilities and high-speed connectivity as well as a fully-equipped business center.

Together with a Grand Ballroom, these provide choice and flexibility to make the hotel an exclusive option for large scale business meetings, social events, weddings or smaller intimate gatherings.

Helga Deboeck, General Manager , Sheraton Grand Conakry expresses pride at being the first Sheraton Grand in Africa and Indian Ocean saying. "We have worked diligently to ensure the hotel goes above and beyond to deliver a fresh, modern and memorable experience to our guests setting a new benchmark of service within West Africa."

The hotel has a number of distinctive dining venues to create an eclectic culinary voyage including an all-day dining restaurant which features Mediterranean flavours, Asian influences and modern interpretations of traditional Guinean cuisine; a French coffee shop and bakery; poolside restaurant and lobby bar.

Sheraton Grand Conakry joins Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai and Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel to become the third hotel in the brand's Africa and Middle East region operations.

Marriott International brought its signature brand and world amenities to sub-Saharan Africa for the first time in its 90-year history with the opening of the Kigali Marriott Hotel in Rwanda's capital Kigali in October 2016.

It plans to debut its stylish eco-incubator brand Element Hotels in Cairo, Egypt in early 2019.
